Fantastic opportunity to purchase a Volkswagen t25, 1.6 turbo diesel, ‘Carthago’, thoroughly refurbished to an extremely high standard.  I imported this vehicle myself from Frankfurt, Germany in May 2011, the vehicle was owned by a VW/Audi technician and was in excellent original order.

‘Carthago’s’ are the best conversion on a t25 you can get in my opinion, as well built as the Westfalia’s but the layout is better and the extra height in the pop up roof is just brilliant, you can stand up in the back without having to lift the roof all the time, it also gives you extra cupboard space over the cab roof, the most useable van you can get, great for families or proper travel van.  The interior of the van is in fantastic shape, the original curtains and cupboards are in excellent order and the tabletop has just been remade as per original.  The front seats have swivel bases so you can turn them round to face the back of the camper which is very sociable and as you can see from the photo’s they have just been professionally re upholstered along with the seat sections of the rock and roll bed which look superb as well as being extremely comfortable.  A new very rubber floor has also been fitted – I always fit these to our vans, as they are extremely durable, easy to clean and look very groovy!  New door cards (veneered maple) have also been fitted to the rear tailgate and sliding door.  Dirk also comes with a 3 burner hob, sink with running water, brand new ‘Waeco’ Coolmatic CR 50, compressor fridge, which are extremely energy efficient, ‘Trumatic’ gas blown heater, CD/radio with separate Alpine amplifier and 240V hook up.  There are plenty of lights in the van all of which work, x2, 12 volt sockets and 1, 240 volt socket to the rear and a working fan!  Sleeps 4 easily, 2 up and 2 down, the rear seat is fitted with x2 lap safety belts.

Structurally, Dirk is rock solid with excellent original bodywork, the only panels that have been replaced are the n/s outer sill, n/s rear wheel arch and n/s rear small corner panel, again all documented.  Dirk has also been treated to professional respray in the original colour and looks stunning.  The main beams, jacking points, gutters, and floor are all rock solid ( see pics).  The doors are perfect and clunk shut like a top of the range Mercedes ( no really, I’ve never had one like it before!).  There are opening quarter lights in the cab and the rear tailgate has up rated gas sstruts so you can fit a bike rack on the rear and bikes and it will lift up and stay up, which is very handy.  Brand new windscreen, with no chips or cracks whatsoever.

Mechanically Dirk’s excellent, as most parts have been replaced in very recent times.  Drives and stops great, excellent gearbox and linkage.  Dirk has flown through the 2 MOT’s we’ve put him through the only things we have had to do is fit a rear fog light ( German vehicles weren’t fitted with them apparently!), and front indicator bulb!  It feels really good on the road and this is helped by having up rated shock absorbers at the rear, which stiffens it up and stops the lolling around that you normally get.  Oil and filter change 20/07/12. Loads of tread on very good tyres, fitted to original Volkswagen alloys, which are all in top order.  There is also a tow bar with electrics fitted.  Being a 1.6 turbo diesel it’s very economical which with today’s prices is a Godsend!  One key fits all locks and it comes with a spare.

To summarize, Dirk was an excellent original camper when we bought him in May 2011 and we have simply made him better but kept the originality.  A small fortune has been spent on this camper along with a whole lot of love.  Mot'd until 13/07/13, tax until 31/12/13.  I’d drive him anywhere; Dirk will be a really great camper for whoever is lucky enough to own him next.
